THE MORNING GLORY & MARIJUANA

Did you know that the Aztec Indians used Morning Glory seeds for their psychoactive qualities?

Seeds from most Morning Glory plants contain a natural occurring compound called Lysergic Acid Amide (LSA), which works much in the same manner as LSD.  Like LSD, LSA acts as a psychedelic.
Although it is listed under the United States Controlled Substance Act, under Schedule III, you can buy Morning Glory seeds anywhere.  Extraction of the active alkaloid in the seed is possible, but illegal.  So, you just simply eat the seeds.
It is recommended for a light dose, to take 50 to 100 seeds (1.5 to 3 grams); a common dose is said to be 100 to 250 seeds (3 to 6 grams); anything over 250 (up to 10 grams) is considered a strong dose; 400 seeds being a heavy dose.
It can take 30 minutes to an hour and a half for your trip to begin, lasting anywhere from 4 to 10 hours.  Some say a residual affect can be felt the next day.
CAUTION:  Do not operate machinery; do not ingest seeds if you are taking an MAOI, which are commonly found in prescription anti-depressants; do not take if your are pregnant, or have a family history of mental illness, such as schizophrenia.
Now I would like to say that I have never ate Morning Glory Seeds.  I never even heard of tripping on Morning Glory seeds until 2008; well past my glory days of experimentation, so to speak.
But there is a ballot coming up in the State of Florida this November that would allow for the legal use of medical marijuana.  In which I can say that I have smoke pot before, and I totally support the Amendment II initiative.
Still there is an opposition that wants to see this initiative fail.  Mostly God fearing Christians I suppose.  After all, I do live in the Bible belt.  And what I can’t understand is, if someone believes in God the Creator, then how can one think it is ok to condemn a plant; a part of God’s creation?
A Marijuana Plant pictured with Morning Glory
Marijuana is a gift to mankind; an herb with healing properties.  No psychedelic qualities attached.  You plant a seed and it grows all on its own.  You do not have to add chemicals to it.  You care for it like you would any other herb you have growing in your garden.  Give it some water and watch it grow.  When the plant has reached its peak, simply hang it upside down to dry.  It is certainly no different than having Morning Glories growing in the yard.
Marijuana plants are very attractive.  And from what I’ve heard, they smell really good too.  Which brings me to this question, if it is legal to purchase Morning Glory seeds, knowing that they contain LSA, a hallucinogenic drug that is tagged as illegal, then how can a marijuana plant be outlawed for containing an opiate (THC)?
I don’t see any difference, other than getting a buzz with an analgesic effect in contrast to tripping on a hallucinogenic.  I would think the Morning Glories would be outlawed way before the healing qualities of a marijuana plant.
And if Morning Glories were outlawed, how outraged would you be?  If you think it’s a silly question, then I’m sure you understand how absurd I find it to be that a marijuana plant is considered illegal.
Please, feel free to leave your comments below.  I would love to hear what you have to say on this issue.
